Colorado Institute of Music operates 3 educational programs for children 2-18 years of age at our yearly institute in Beaver Creek, Colorado. Classes take place throughout the resort area with performances at the Vilar, one of the foremost, state of the art performance halls in the Rocky Mountains.
Our flagship program has been running for almost 30 years. This week long program is open to students of all ages studying the Suzuki method on Cello, Violin, Viola, Guitar, & Piano. Join a vibrant community of families with young children and teens for a special learning experience in the sunshine filled Rocky Mountains.
Colorado Chamber Music Institute is an audition-based program specifically designed to nurture the development of high school instrumentalists who play Violin, Viola, Cello, Guitar, and Flute. Students (incoming 9th graders through recent high school graduates, ages 13-18) will have private lessons, chamber coachings, chamber music seminars, yoga, and more!
We are fortunate to have on board as our resident artists, Stephanie Skor, and Kirsti Petraborg from the Twin-Cities based Lux String Quartet! (www.luxstringquartet.com) They bring a wealth of performing and coaching knowledge to our team and all accepted applicants will get a chance to work closely with them throughout the week.
Colorado Vocal Institute is an audition-based program specifically designed to nurture the development of high school singers in Classical and Musical Theater singing. Our program differs from other programs in that it places an emphasis on individual lessons and coachings. Students (incoming 9th graders through recent high school graduates, ages 13-18) learn to be better singers and performers within a small group of singers from across the country.
There is a profound truth embedded within the essence of music itself – it has an innate ability to bring people together, expand our perspectives, and enrich our emotional lives. The Colorado Institute of Music has this profund truth at the core of its existance.
With over 30 years as a qualified 501c3 non profit, the Colorado Institute of Music operates 3 different educational programs for children; Colorado Suzuki Insitute, Colorado Chamber Music Institute, and Colorado Vocal Institute. Each of these programs take place in Beaver Creek, Colorado every June and lasts for about a week depending upon the program.
Each summer over 400 students, faculty, staff and family members gather in the incomporable beauty of the Rocky Mountains to make music. Each day is filled with classes (parents or other adult caregivers attend classes with their children under the age of 13) and each evening is filled with concerts, musical events, and socializing with other famlies.
During the day students and their families attend classes in musicianship, technique, master classes, group instrument classes as well as enrichment classes like Choir, Acting, Dalcroze, and more!
After classes are over for the day everyone gathers in the state of the art performance hall to hear solo performances by the young students as well as performances by faculty members. In the evenings, we typically have events like a community picnic and sing along, fiddle jams, party in the plaza with music and food, or some families opt for a dinner out and a quick dip in the pool followed by a s’more or roasted marshmallow!
On the final day and after a full day of classes the Instiute wraps up with a Celebration Concert where all the students perform music they have been working on thorughout the week.
